The exciting extended contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Toronto Blue Jays by one run attracted a total over 50 million viewers in the United States, Canadian, and Japan territories. MLB stated this is the highest-rated World Series finale after the 1991 contest between the Twins and Atlanta Braves.

The Saturday epic contest secured over 27 million viewers on Fox channels, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the previous week.

It also is the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition final game involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This marks a 16% increase compared to the last Game 7 between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 placed 4th, the fourth game was 7th, Game 5 was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th position.

Global Viewership Figures

In Canada, the game recorded over 11 million viewers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports. This made it the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country after the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final contest began at 9 p.m. local time, it averaged 12 million viewers. This came after the previous Friday’s Game 6 – in which World Series Most Valuable Player Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a single network in Japan.

Overall Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-match World Series averaged over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and ‘16 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete US average was over 16 million. The total Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.
